Biological and chemical characterization of new isolated halophilic microorganisms from saltern ponds of Trapani, Sicily

Halophilic microorganisms inhabiting hypersaline environments such as salt lakes, Dead Sea, or evaporation ponds, have acquired specific cell adaptation to grow within stressful conditions. In this study, we isolated heterotrophic and autotrophic from several saltern ponds located at the Natural Reserve “Saline di Trapani e Paceco”, Sicily, Italy. The aim of study was investigate biotechnological potential new microbial strains by capturing their biological chemical diversity. After isolation identification sampled strains, growth capacity determined under low high salinity metabolomic profiles heterotrophs pigments production photosynthetic organisms were analyzed. parallel, antiproliferative tests on human lines conducted with total extracts coming microorganism cultures, together repair activity assessment non-cytotoxic extracts. Some found synthetize known bioactive molecules exert bioactivity cells. particular, increases activity, probably due an higher antioxidants (e.g. lutein fucoxanthin) microorganisms; same culture condition augment also concentration interesting bioactivities, ectoine, betaine, trigonelline, amino acids oxiglutathione microorganisms. conclusion, work represents first halophilic populating ‘Trapani-Paceco’ shows how interdisciplinary investigation based marine microbiology, biology, modern metabolomics can disclose potential.
